The purpose of the forum was to bring REO asset managers from selected lenders and jurisdictions together with bankers and targeted nonprofit organizations to discuss the transfer of foreclosed or vacant properties under HUD’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP).
City mayors will introduce the meeting regarding the importance of uniting businesses, nonprofits, governments, and educators to build a financially literate citizenry. Attendees will learn what personal financial education resources are already available in their communities and how they can work together with the statewide coalition to improve and increase financial education in their region. Coalition programs include:
- Trainings sessions for high school teacher of the new Mathematics of Personal Finance course
- Annual conferences for the public on household finances
- Speakers bureau
- Financial literacy month activities
Representatives from the major servicers will discuss their procedures for discounting and selling properties to NSP jurisdictions. Attendees will learn how to find properties that are available for sale and which servicers may have the largest inventory of properties available in their target areas. A speaker from the National Community Stabilization Trust will present details of this partnership and explain how it can benefit NSP communities. This forum provides a significant opportunity for peer exchange and collective learning that is certain to result in a more successful fulfillment of local community stabilization objectives.
